How to mount the GoPro on the tail of the Piper P28A Archer

Using the Gopro on different places of the plane becomes addictive. I have used it on several flights inside and outside the cockpit and I am still searching for places where to install to make a different capture of the flight.

I was even thinking of buying another GoPro and record the flight from different angles. With a good programme I would be able to edit them and sincronize them as well…

I saw some nice videos on youtube where the camera was placed on the top of the tail, I think in the case of the Cessna it would be easy using the suction mount cup, as the stabilizer is in the form of ‘T’.

So afterthe landing in El Hierro I was holding the GoPro on the tail trying to see what perspective it would offer. I simply love it!

But! The surface is not plane, so I am not able to use the suction cup…

And I am a little scared to use the 3m adhesive, however I have found a video of a Piper Chayenne flying at FL 290 at 290 kts using the adhesive only…. And it worked. So this would be basically what I’d need.

Another option would be using the head strap mount and to adapt it a bit on the tail of the plane. Seems to be a good option, but have to check the tail of my Piper first. I’ve found an article on internet and in his case it worked very well. You can read the article here.

I’ll investigate more and hopefully I’ll be able to publish a new video from the tail view soon!

I had to continue my flight with the camera installed in the cockpit, departing from the island El Hierro (GCHI):

    • Thanks Tjerri,

It is a good video, it is the previous model, but there is no difference in the way of installing it. I use normally the suction cup and duct tape and it holds there perfectly.

The tail of their plane is plane, not like on my Piper.

I have updated the post with a icture where you can see the structure of the tail which makes the situation a bit complicated…

Probably IΒ΄d go for the adhesive reforced by a duct tape… πŸ˜‰
