How to mount the GoPro on the tail of the Piper P28A Archer part.2

In the previous post about how to install the gopro on the P-28A’s vertical stab, the best option seemed to install the curved gopro adhesive mount on the tail. The maintanance guy of our flying club took care of this; polished the surface and pasted the original GoPro curved adhesive mount on the tail. He did a very good job, because from this position you will have a very nice position over the plane with the wings as well (pictures further in this post).

You need this 2 spare parts to install the camera into the position to get a nice view.

This is how you have to put the parts together:

The big advantage of the adhesive is that you don’t loose time installing the mount suction cup, you don’t have to clean the surface, etc. And also, on the stabilizator there is no place to install it due to its structure. I’ve choosen the original “Grab Bag of Mounts” from the Gopro brand.

This is how it looks like installed on the plane:

And these are the images you can make with:

The only thing I have noticed are vibrations during the takeoff roll and the climb. During the flight it maintains the position very well. In some of my posts I’ll describe how we have mounted the camera on the Cessna’s tail.

Safe landings!

  1. I was thinking of all those aviation engineers who were and are thinking and struggling how to optimize the aerodynamics of their planes. And just when they think they have reached the optimal curves and lines, there’s some nutty pilot who wants to attach a camera on the outside of the carefully carved and sculpted hull of their masterpiece. If it would have been a Nikon … ok. But in this case 😉
Wouldn’t it be wise to warn Tenerife beachcombers and to advise them to wear a helmet. Just in case of …

    • Hahaha, the modern aviation engineers install the camera into the fuselage, so the pilot doesn’t have to be loosing time installing the cameras on the plane. The aerodynamics wouldn’t be affected in this case. It’s a shame that they were not thinking of this 40 years ago, now we have to do it for them 😉

Don’t know whether you saw this video, sad destiny of a Gopro which felt from the plane… http://www.viralnova.com/go-pro-camera-fell-from-plane/

The adhesives are strong, so nobody on the beach should get hurt. haha
