GoPro Hero3 on a Cessna

Sometimes I was thinking that it could be boring to fly on a island, because it would be always the same, flying around, but I have to admit, until now there were no 2 equal flights.

I saw a lot of nice pictures taken with the gopro installed on Cessna’s horizontal stabilizer, so I decided to try it out.

I was a bit concerned if it would have any influence on the controls during the flight, but it was absolutely no problem.

The friendly ATC let us climb up to FL80, and we were able to take some nice pictures during the flight around the island’s mighty Mt. Teide (almost 13’000 feet high).

We were able to fly 6’000 feet above our home base airport and take some nice pictures. It was really an amazing view.

Here some more pictures from the flight around Tenerife with the Gopro Hero on our Cessna.

I am very happy that everything worked as planned and I was able to enjoy a nice flight in good weather conditions, however the approach was a bit bumpy…

Here are some more pictures from the flight, hope you’ll enjoy them!

  1. Nice pics Stany. Seriously, if they would have taken with a Nikon they might be slightly better but it’s a close call 🙂
I wonder what the result might be if the last one would have been taken at 6,000 feet high instead of 6 feet … Keep up the spirit bro !

    • Hey man! I think we should try to mount your Nikon on the stabilizer, what do you think? I am afraid it would cause a lot of drag and the plane would wire to one side 😩😩😩😂😂😂😩😩😩. If you would take a selfie in this moment, it would be the best ever! By the way, can you imagine how would you feel during the entire flight knowing there is your Nikon mounted outside which could be lost? Uuuuuu. Next time I’ll try out to take last pic at 6’000 ft as well (or at least photoshop it). Take care! 😃😃😃

  2. Great photos Stan! I have to try to mount the Gopro outside the aircraft… but I don’t want to lose it! 😦

    • Thank you Ruben,

Just do it! Once you will do it, you won’t be able to stop with it!

The same happened to me as well. 🙂

I preffer to use the adhesive mounts, but in the case I used the suction cup and I was constantly looking back if the camera was still attached to the stabilizer 🙂

Luckily yes, so I can share this images now. Would be even better to edit them a bit, but I am a bit lazy 🙂

      Safe landings!
